Marcellus Tourism Study
STC received Appalachian Regional Commission funds to study the possible effects of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling, particularly horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”), on tourism in the Southern Tier Central region. Tourism is an important part of the region’s economy, and although studies are being done on natural gas drilling and other aspects of the economy, tourism was not being addressed.
STC engaged a consultant, Andrew Rumbach, to complete the study.
The final Marcellus Tourism Study has been unanimously approved by the STC board.
