Human Services
Through grantswriting assistance, needs assessment, project generation, and coordination, STC supports the human services structure in the three county region.
STC organizes and staffs human services committees in all three counties and the region. The resulting exchange of information prevents duplication, encourages creativity, and allows replication of worthwhile projects.
Through the work of one county committee, studies have been completed on the feasibility of shared services for human services agencies. Discussions on the subject are ongoing.
STC staff assists agencies in grants development for the Appalachian Regional Commission and for other funding sources as well.
The Appalachian Regional Commission funding process is unique, involving local review of human services project applications by human services committees, staff, and the STC board. In this unusual process, federal fund distribution is based on recommendations from the local level.
With the input of members of the four human services committees representing over 80 agencies, an annual human services needs assessment is developed.
STC staff serves on boards of directors and committees of a variety of human services agencies in the three counties, sharing information and providing technical assistance.
